Last week, the German organization Welthungerhilfe released its annual report. The findings for Madagascar are alarming:
🔸 39.5% of the population is undernourished.
🔸 38.4% of children under 5 suffer from stunted growth.
🔸 7.2% of children under 5 are emaciated.
🔸 6.5% of children die before their fifth birthday.
These figures reflect a dire reality: years of drought exacerbated by climate change, a weakened economy, and families whose livelihoods are becoming increasingly precarious.
Hope remains: new political changes are on the horizon in Madagascar—will they help reverse this trend? We want to believe so.
On its own scale, J’IRAI À L’ÉCOLE, supported by its sponsors, members, and donors, works every day to provide disadvantaged Malagasy youth with access to education and a balanced diet. An effort that is modest given the scale of the problem, yet vital for the young students who benefit from it.
