The canteen: a way to fight against school drop-out

Enabling children to eat well in the canteen is a major asset for keeping them in school. For many children, the lunchtime meal in the canteen is the only meal of the day.

At the School of the Little Giants, families participate by bringing in each Monday the amount of rice that their child will eat during the week. Tahina, the cook, mixes and cooks all the portions of rice, adding vegetables, eggs or pieces of meat paid for by J'irai à l'école each day.

This system of parental participation works well, even the poorest make the effort, and Felana, the school's director, tells us that the canteen is a great success with families.
